Solveig Turpin received her doctorate in anthropopogy from the University of Texas at Austin in 1980 while working at the Texas Archeological Survey, precursor to the Texas Archeological Research Laboratory (TARL). She subsequently became Director of the Survey which was later subsumed under TARL, where she was appointed Associate Director. While supervising hundreds of cultural resource assessments for state parks, petroleum pipelines, reservoirs, and lignite mines, she has carried out extensive field work and research in Texas and northern Mexico. Her publication list includes contract reports, journal articles, book chapters, magazine articles, and monographs on archeology and rock art. Dr. Turpin started Turpin and Sons, Inc. in 1995 while continuing her research through her affiliation with the Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of Texas. Jeff Turpin worked on his first site mitigation in 1979, and earned his bones as a site surveyor and recorder in the brasada of south Texas and the Ordnance Impact Area of Ft. Hood in 1980-1985, but quickly moved on to project supervisor, first with Texas A&M University at Ft. Hood in 1984, and later with the Texas Archeological Research Lab on numerous other projects. He learned the private side of the contract archeology business working for Prewitt and Associates, Inc., Espy Huston and Associates, Inc., Galvan-Eling Inc., and other environmental firms. He joined Solveig in Turpin and Sons, Inc. in 1995, supervising dozens of state-permitted surveys and excavations across the state, and authoring over one hundred reports on various archeological assessments in Texas and Louisiana. He continues to work full time in cultural resource management, specializing in pipelines and area mines, while finishing his PhD at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
